Audax bikes are a versatile and increasingly popular style of bike, they were ininitially designed for riding Audax events, these Audax events were events where mudguards were compulsary and covered distances from 200km upwards to 1200km, consequently an Audax cycle can vary from essentially a race bike with mudguards and at the other extreme a touring bicycle could be adapted to ride Audax style events.
Typically an Audax bike would have caliper style brakes and clearances for up to 28mm tyres and mudguards giving the option to use larger section tyres, if needed. There are usually fittings for a carrier and double bottle bosses, specifically designed Audax cycles may also include fittings for dynamos or lights as riding through the night is not an uncommon use for this style of cycle.
