Custom Built

Hewitt cycles can supply custom built frames either built by ourselves or by one of the various companies we are dealers for.

Before designing a custom built frame we would need to establish the position to which the finished bike needs to be set up to.

It may be worth mentioning at this point that the position on a custom built frame should be set to a position previously determined as it should on an off the peg frame, so if the position is the same on either a custom built frame as it is on the custom frame, the position shouldn’t be any different, so from a position point of view both should be the same.

The benefit of a custom built frame is that it can be built firstly to ensure the position is correct but if the frame is designed correctly the bike once finished can be designed to look as you want it to, within reason.

Once we have determined the position, it is possible for you to specify where you want the saddle positioned on the seat post (ie. set so the saddle is in the mid range of the adjustment on the rails or otherwise). The amount of exposed seat post can be specified, these requirements along with the saddle and seat post make, and model would determine the necessary seat tube length and seat angle.

The stem length can be specified (within reason) as can the amount of spacing under the stem, between the stem and headset, these requirements would determine the height for the top of the head tube and the length of the top tube.

We can build frames to suit fixed wheel, Rohloff hubs or anything else you may require.

Add to this the type of tubing, the tubing diameters and various brazed on fittings, which can be specified and it is possible, not only to build a bike that fits correctly but that also looks as you want it to and has the various fittings in the style you want positioned where you want etc. etc.
